Vandegrift Defeats Dripping Springs 27–20 at Alamodome to Advance to UIL Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Vandegrift Vipers are headed to the UIL Texas high school football semifinals after pulling off a 27–20 victory over Dripping Springs on Saturday at the Alamodome. The win marked a statement moment for Vandegrift, which avenged an early-season loss to Dripping Springs. Back in the regular season, the Tigers dominated the Vipers 41–14, but Saturday’s matchup told a very different story.

Vandegrift came out the gate swinging, controlling the pace and capitalizing on key opportunities on both sides of the ball. The Vipers’ offense found balance, while the defense made timely stops to slow a Dripping Springs team that had been one of the most consistent ground and pound teams in Texas this season. Vandegrift entered the matchup with momentum after rebounding from that early blowout loss and finishing the season 12–2, but Vandegrift’s execution and discipline proved to be the difference in the playoff rematch.

With the win, Vandegrift advances to the UIL state semifinals, where the Vipers will face CE King next Saturday at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. CE King is known for its speed and explosiveness, setting up a highly anticipated semifinal showdown.

Saturday’s victory not only sends Vandegrift one step closer to a state championship appearance, but also highlights the team’s growth and resilience throughout the season.

Kickoff in Waco is set for next Saturday, with a trip to the UIL Texas State Football Championship on the line.
